Why Malaysia eVisa Applications Get Rejected — 10 Mistakes to Avoid

Immigration doesn't always explain a refusal in detail, but most delays and rejections trace back to a short list of avoidable mistakes. Check yours against this list before you submit.

1. Name or passport number doesn't match

A single wrong letter — or swapping first and last names — is the number-one problem. Copy everything exactly as it appears in your passport.

2. Blurry or cropped passport scan

The bio page must be sharp, in colour, with all four corners and both MRZ lines visible. No glare from lamps or flash.

3. The wrong kind of photo

Selfies, filters, dark backgrounds, sunglasses or a photo cut out of a group picture are common reasons to be asked for a new one.

4. Passport expiring too soon

Your passport should be valid for at least 6 months from your arrival date. Renew it first if needed.

5. Weak financial proof

A statement covering only one month, with no name on it, or with a balance that doesn't fit the trip, raises questions. Provide 3 months and, if someone sponsors you, their statement and a letter.

6. A sudden large deposit

A big one-off deposit just before applying can look like borrowed "show money". A steady history is more convincing than one large entry.

7. Unclear purpose of travel

Make sure your purpose (tour, business, visiting family) matches your documents. A business trip needs an invitation letter; a family visit benefits from your host's details.

8. Dates that don't add up

Your arrival date, return ticket and hotel booking should agree with each other and fit inside the maximum stay of 30 days.

9. Previous overstay or immigration issues

Past overstays in Malaysia or elsewhere can affect a decision. Be honest — inconsistencies are worse than a disclosed history.

10. Ignoring a document request

If the status changes to Document Required or you're invited for an interview, respond quickly. Late replies are a common reason for refusals. See what every status means.
